What is Markdown Preview?

Markdown is a lightweight markup language created by John Gruber in 2004 that lets you write formatted text using a plain-text syntax. It is the de facto standard for writing documentation, README files, blog posts, comments, and messages across platforms like GitHub, GitLab, Stack Overflow, Reddit, and many content management systems.

Our free online Markdown preview tool lets you write Markdown in the left panel and instantly see the rendered HTML output in the right panel. The tool supports all common Markdown syntax: headers (H1-H6), bold, italic, inline code, code blocks, links, images, ordered and unordered lists, blockquotes, horizontal rules, and strikethrough text.

The preview renders in real time as you type, with no need to click a button. The tool also includes a Copy HTML button that copies the generated HTML, which you can paste into your website, email, or CMS. The Markdown parser is powered by the marked library, and all processing happens in your browser for complete privacy.

How to Use This Tool

  1. Enter Markdown — Type or paste your Markdown text in the input area on the left.
  2. View the preview — The rendered preview updates in real time as you type.
  3. Use Markdown syntax — Use # for headers, **bold**, *italic*, `code`, [links](url), - for lists, > for blockquotes, and --- for horizontal rules.
  4. Copy HTML — Click the Copy HTML button to copy the generated HTML to your clipboard.
